Emergency Transportation High Wage, High Growth project will train 176 young
adults (18-30) as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), the fourth highest job
growth occupation in Los Angeles County. Priority will be given to veterans,
emancipated foster youth, and homeless youth. Approximately 142 participants
will be placed in employment as EMTs and will be eligible for career ladder
opportunities as paramedics and firefighters. |

| Summary: The purpose
of this project is to increase the region's labor pool of qualified auto
technicians with Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications and
develop employer-specific skills training for incumbent workers in the
automotive service industry. The partners of this collaborative include
workforce development, auto dealerships, independent auto repair shops, Yuba
College Automotive Department, Regional Occupation Program, and participating
high schools. Seventy participants will receive automotive service training
including ASE certification. Thirty-six incumbent workers will receive
employer-specific upgrade training. |

BUILD will provide pre-apprenticeship construction training for older youth
and adults, and displaced workers in the City of Richmond in order to meet
employer demand for high-skilled workers in the construction industry in
Richmond and the East Bay Region. Through a partnership that includes the
Workforce Investment System: industry employers; the K-12, adult and
community college education systems; trade unions; and community and
faith-based organizations, the project creates a critically needed training
model that is both responsive to the workforce demands of the high-growth
construction industry, and provides job-seekers with access to high-wage/high
skilled jobs. Approximately 120 individuals will be placed in construction
jobs such as carpenters, drywall installers, ironworkers, and plumbers. |

| Summary: The
Sacramento Works Construction Initiative brings together workforce
professionals, apprenticeship programs, employers, and educators to address
the staffing needs of the construction industry. Partners include Sacramento Sierra Building and Construction Trade Council, Sacramento Builder Exchange,
Northern California Construction and Training, Holt of California, American River College, and Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee. The high wage,
high skill construction industry continues to be one of the largest and
fastest growing industries in California. The Construction Initiative’s
overarching goal is to expand and enhance the access to construction
employment opportunities, thereby increasing the number of knowledgeable,
skilled, and stable employees in the construction workforce. This will be
accomplished by providing training to 110 individuals in various construction
trades occupations. Approximately 55 individuals will be placed in
construction jobs and 27 incumbent workers will upgrade skills. |

| Summary: The
Employer Focused Training Project will assist 130 low-income individuals to
overcome barriers, receive highly specific pre-employment soft and hard job
skills training that is contextualized to the requirements of the partnering
employers, San Diego Gas & Electric and National Steel and Ship Building
Company. Each employer provides input and oversees the content and the level
of skill attainments for each training module. After job seekers are trained,
both employers will hire qualified applicants in high wage high skill
professions. Approximately 105 individuals will be placed in employment.
The employers will provide further hard skills training once workers are
employed. |

| Summary: The San Joaquin County Local Workforce Investment Area (LWIA), in partnership with the LWIAs of Madera County, Merced County, and Stanislaus County, proposes to connect workforce investment resources to the manufacturing industry which is expected to play a major role in the expansion of the northern San Joaquin Valley economy and where current skill shortages are hampering business growth. The four LWIAs of the Northern San Joaquin Valley Partnership will provide employment and training services to 90 WIA eligible participants in order to place and retain them in high growth, high demand, and high wage jobs in the manufacturing industry. Occupations include industrial machinery mechanics, maintenance and repair workers, and welders. |
