Overview
The EDD Job Service is the public employment service for the State of California.
From locations in over 200 communities, the EDD Job Service program serves the
State's 900,000 employers and the one million or more job seekers who use the
services each year.
The EDD Job Service is authorized by the federal Wagner-Peyser Act, as amended by
the Workforce Investment Act of 1998. The U.S. Department of Labor provides
regulations and guidelines for operations. The EDD plans and delivers the services
in California in partnership with other employment and training organizations in
the One-Stop Career Centers created by the Workforce Investment Act of 1998.
The EDD Job Service provides California's employers with a variety of services
to meet work force needs. Through the Internet-based
CalJOBSSM, the Job Service offers a statewide
network that provides an instant link for employers with qualified job seekers
anywhere in California. The EDD Job Service also provides employers with:
- re-employment services for dislocated workers;
- labor market information for planning business expansion, relocation,
and future hiring;
- focused recruitment for new business ventures or facilities needing a
large number of specialized workers in a hurry;
- locally coordinated work force preparation services.
The EDD Job Service serves the job finding needs of California's mobile work
force. Workers enter their skills and experience into the CalJOBSSM résumé
database to provide employers with a pool of qualified applicants from which to
choose. Job seekers can also use CalJOBSSM to search the job listing database. CalJOBSSM
is available at EDD Job Service locations,
One-Stop Career Centers,
and anywhere there is Internet access.
The EDD Job Service also provides job seekers with:
- job search training workshops that teach the skills needed to find and
keep a job;
- referral to partner agencies that provide other employment related
services, including training.
California law requires that EDD verify a job seeker's legal
status and authorization to work in the United States prior to providing an
employment-related service. The requirement applies to all Job Service applicants,
whether or not they are U.S. citizens or nationals, temporary or resident aliens,
residing in or outside of California.
