Employer Services
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the EDD Job Service?
The EDD Job Service is California’s component of the federal/state public
employment service system. Connecting employers with qualified workers –
that’s our job. The Job Service is funded by employers under the Federal
Unemployment Tax Act (FUTA), and all services are offered without a fee.
The EDD Job Service is a partner with other employment and training
organizations in the One-Stop Career Center system created by the Workforce
Investment Act of 1998.
How does the Job Service help employers?
Job Service’s primary mission – meeting employers’ workforce needs – is today
largely accomplished through the CalJOBSSM
Internet job search and talent bank system. Employers can enter their job listings
directly into CalJOBSSM, or have EDD staff enter them. Employers can then use the
CalJOBSSM search functions to locate résumés or job histories of
qualified job seekers. Job seekers can also search the data base of job openings to
find suitable employment.
Most employers list their jobs with the employer name and contact information,
so job seekers can contact them directly for an interview. Employers may also
request EDD’s assistance to screen, select, and refer qualified job applicants.
Who can place job listings in EDD’s CalJOBSSM?
Any employer who has a California employment tax account can use CalJOBSSM to find
qualified employees. Information about California employment taxes is available
from EDD’s Employment Tax Branch.
The first time an employer uses CalJOBSSM, they will enter their tax account number.
EDD staff will register the employer and respond with a unique password to ensure
the security of the employer’s CalJOBSSM entries. Click

How do employers list jobs on CalJOBSSM?
Employers with Internet access can enter their job orders directly into
CalJOBSSM. If necessary, EDD staff in the
local Job Service offices can assist employers with preparing
a job order and with entering it in CalJOBSSM.
Before logging in to post a job opening, assemble the following information:
- Employer's California employment tax account number,
- Job title for the opening,
- Job duties, including specialized skills, experience, training, and equipment
requirements,
- Information on working conditions, including starting date, job location, hours,
duration, and wages,
- Contact and referral instructions,
- Any other information that would be relevant to the job seekers who will be
viewing the job opening on CalJOBSSM.
How do employers find qualified workers on CalJOBSSM?
Employers have an option on how to reach workers. A job listing with the
employer name, address, and contact information will allow job seekers to
contact the employer directly. Alternately, employers may request EDD to
search, select, and refer qualified applicants; check with your
local Job Service office for details.
Employers with job openings listed in CalJOBSSM may search the data base of job seeker
résumés on their own for potential employees.
What other services does EDD Job Service have for employers?
The EDD Job Service also provides employers with other services to meet
workforce needs:
- Re-employment services for dislocated workers.
- Labor market information for planning
business expansion, relocation, and future hiring.
- Focused recruitment for new business ventures or facilities needing a
large number of specialized workers in a hurry.
