America's People, America's Talent … America's Strength!

Patrick Henning

Director’s Message

California draws strength and vitality from the sweeping diversity of its people. We come together from many nations and cultures to form a rich mosaic, sharing common hopes and dreams while maintaining our own unique individuality.

In October, we celebrate Disability Employment Awareness Month, embracing the national theme, "America's People, America's Talent …America's Strength." A theme that exemplifies the soul of people with disabilities, illustrating their talents, courage, and wisdom, that enrich this Golden State.

During this month the EDD Web site features various programs and events that support the employment of people with disabilities.

It is my hope that you take the time to view our Web site to learn about the many employment programs and services, and valuable resources we offer people with disabilities.

California is home to the most diverse population in the country and that includes our citizens with disabilities. At the Employment Development Department (EDD) we recognize that people with disabilities bring many talents and strengths to the workplace. Our job is to help employers and job seekers with disabilities connect.

EDD’s Web site features Services for People with Disabilities with resources and links to important programs and services. One valuable resource is the Disability Program Navigators (DPNs) which can assist persons with disabilities to take advantage of available training and employment opportunities, as well as navigate through the complex provisions of the many programs in which they may be participating. DPNs can also provide expertise and serve as a resource for large and small employers and community- and faith-based organizations in reasonable accommodations, tax incentives, and other employment-related requirements.

To learn more about employing people with disabilities, below are tool boxes, where employers can find resources to help them employ people with disabilities and job seekers can find tips to help with their job search.
